Steelers Organization celebrate 82nd year

On this day in 1933, the Pittsburgh Pirates were formed by Art Rooney and today are tied as the 7th oldest club in the NFL behind the Chicago Bears, the Cardinals (both St. Louis & Arizona), the Detroit Lions (also the Portsmouth Spartans), the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and the (Boston) Washington Redskins.

The organization would spend decades as an irrelevant organization and it was not until the 1970’s that the club came into prominence behind Chuck Knoll and Quarterback Terry Bradshaw, now a Fox NFL analyst, winning their first Superbowl in 1974.

The Steelers will open the preseason with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio against the Minnesota Vikings.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today before they are all gone!

Steelers face Vikings at Wembley Stadium

Match between 0-3 teams not what the NFL expected

Back when this game was announced, it was looked upon as an event that will help to push the NFL brand in the United Kingdom. Then reality came calling.

The Minnesota Vikings have yet to get off the ground this season falling to the Lions, Bears and the Browns while the Steelers have succumbed to the Titans, Bengals and the Bears.

Adding insult to injury, Vikings QB Christian Ponder is now listed as doubtful with a rib injury picked up against the Browns.

“we’re going to push it to the limit and see what we can do, in a smart way. But I’m doing everything I can to play,” Ponder said.
