Steelers expect Brady to come after their young CB’s

“Tom Brady? He is what he is. He’s good,”

The Pittsburgh Steelers have heard it all before but this year the trash talking from their next opponent, the New England Patriots, has gone to a new level of low after Patriots receiver Julian Edelmen questioned the way the Steelers franchise is run.

Pro Football Talk’s David Smith reported yesterday that Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger came to the defense of the franchise and it’s owners.

We’ve got our trophies out there. I’ve got owners that I think are the best in the business. They’re family to us, and I’m sure if he talked to his owner, he would say the same thing about the Rooneys. Anybody in here in the football world or the regular world that [knows] the Rooneys knows what they stand for. It’s a blessing to call them a family.

Brady will pick on CB’s

Rookie cornerbacks Artie Burns and Sean Davis are fully aware that veteran QB Tom Brady will test them the entire game but, they have been tested every game thus far leading into the AFC Championship.

“Yeah, I’m aware of that,” Davis said. “I’m aware of that every time I step out on the field on Sundays. We have less experience, and they might try us, but I feel like we’ve been playing well, that we’ve been making plays, so you can go on and keep trying me.”

“Tom Brady? He is what he is. He’s good,” Burns concurred.  “That’s what he does.  “He’s a savvy vet. That’s what savvy vets do; they go after rookies. I’m prepared for it. It’s a challenge. I’ve just got to be ready.

Steelers and Chiefs to do battle this Sunday

Chiefs confident they will punish Roethlisberger

The Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in an AFC Divisional Battle that will be one of the best tickets to have this post season.

The Chiefs main plan is to pressure Roethlisberger hard the entire game.  The Chiefs also hope that Justin Houston will be back to terrorize.

“We have a lot of respect for Justin Houston,” Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin said, “but we also have a lot for Dee Ford and Tamba Hali. Those edge players for them, regardless of who’s in the game, are a challenge for us.”

“But the ability to make that quarterback move in the pocket has been huge for us,” Chiefs Coach Andy Reid argued. “They feel that heat, and they’re either moving backwards or sideways and they can’t get their feet set, so that can be as an important as a sack. But the important thing is you’re getting more pressure, and you don’t let them throw from a set platform.”

The Steelers beat the Miami Dolphins 30-12 in the Wild Card playoff round last week but QB Ben Roethlisberger came out of the game with an ankle injury that will surely hamper his movements on the field.  As of Wednesday, he was still suffering soreness but coach Tomlin still has full confidence in he QB.

“We’ll watch him closely as we push forward to the game, but not anticipating that limiting him,” Tomlin said. “I don’t imagine his foot circumstance changing our approach [to preparation].”

Steelers welcome G-Men to Heinz Field

A win needed to keep playoff hopes alive.

When you think of the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5, 2nd AFC North), you think smothering defense but this season, the Steelers have had their problems with opposing teams air games.  To date, the Steelers are giving up 263.9 yards passing and just over 100 yards on the ground, giving up 20.2 points per game.

Defending Odell Beckham will be key.

“They’ve won six in a row, so there hasn’t been a lot of success steelers-3lately,” cornerback Ross Cockrell said of Beckham. “We just have to do whatever it takes to win the ballgame, whether that’s turnovers, whether it’s disruption, whether that’s blitzing off the edge and trying to get to the quarterback.  We’re going to try to change it up and show them some different things.”

This will be only the 4th time in the two teams history they will meet in Pittsburgh.  The last time the New York Giants (8-3, 2nd NFC East) visited the Steel City was in October 2008 where they walked away with a 21-14 victory.

Eagles visit Heinz Field

Roethlisberger will not play for 2nd week

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost week one of the 2016 preseason 30-17 against the Detroit Lions at home.  Now come the revamped Philadelphia Eagles now led by Head Coach Doug Pederson.   The Eagles beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17-9 in week of of preseason action.

The team announced the Ben Roethlisberger will not play for the second week in a row in an attempt to keep the aging veteran insulated for a while longer.

“I know what Ben is capable of,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “He showed up in tremendous condition. He’s performed well. He’s obviously a veteran. What’s required for him to be ready to play might be different than others.”

The Steelers expect to see a bit more of Sam Bradford this week than what he played against the Bucs.  Bradford has been touted as much further ahead than he was at this point steelers 2in the preseason last year.  He only received three snaps last week so expect to see more of him as well as Steelers rookie LB Javon Hargrave chasing after him.  Hargrave has earned high praise from Head Coach Mike Tomlin.

“His pedigree routinely flashes,” Tomlin said. “He’s a talented guy, yes.”

Kickoff is at eight and plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to grab yours now and be a part of the action!

Steelers happy with O-Line upgrade

If the Pittsburgh Steelers dare put themselves into the “Super Bowl Contender” contention, they needed to upgrade a secondary that gave up 29 passing touchdowns in the season and on offensive line that allowed 33 sacks.

Check and no.steelers

The Steelers picked up Ryan Harris from the defending Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos squad in the offseason which immediately bolsters the line.  The team also drafted a project OL player in Jerald Hawkins, an LSU product that the team has high hopes for.  Under the tutelage of new Defensive Coordinator Mike Munchek, the young tackle could be a star in the league in the near future.

The cornerback position is still questionable at best with Mike Mitchell still one of the top three at the position next to William Gay (who played well in 2015) and Ross Cockrell (who is a backup at best).  Mitchell, now in his eighth season, has only career interceptions.

The Steelers open the Preseason with home game against the Detroit Lions.  Tickets for this game and all preseason/regular season games are already on sale so be sure to get yours today and help cheer on your Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016!

Steelers/Bengals Clash again this weekend

After the last meeting between these two AFC teams, the NFL handed out over $140,000 in fines from their week 14 match up.  In that game, the fighting began in the pre-game warm ups before the Bengals lost QB Andy Dalton with a broken thumb.  Bengals Vontaze Burfict was fined for a nasty hit on Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger.  But the trouble didn’t begin there.

The troubles between these two teams began in week 8 after Burfict applied the hit that knocked RB Le’Veon Bell out for the season then proceeded to celebrate.  After that incident, Steelers Guard Ramon Foster had this to say.

“He’s that type of guy,” Foster said. “That type of guy will get his sooner or later. … If you’ve played against him, you know what I mean by it. He’ll play it off, act dumb about it, but you don’t run across the field acting hyped, celebrating, running up and down when a guy goes down like that.”

Now playing for their playoff lives, coaches on both sides hope that this will be a cleaner game.

“They kind of got it out of their system there in the last game,” Defensive Coordinator Paul Guenther said.

Not so sure about that after RT Marcus Gilbert put out a tweet before the holiday:

Whatever happens, you have the opportunity to see it live.  Plenty of affordable tickets and great seats are still available so be sure to get yours today and be a part of Steelers History!!

Steelers travel to Cinci for epic battle

The Cincinnati Bengals will look to punch their ticket into the playoffs with a punch in the mouth to the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday in a pivotal match up of AFC nemesis’s.

Ben Roethlisberger is looking to redeem himself after a three interception debacle in their last meeting.

“I played bad football,” Roethlisberger said.

Don’t expect a repeat performance as Big Ben has been playing quite well of late, racking up 810 yards and five touchdowns in his last two games.

“It’s going to be hard to have much more than a divisional opponent in their place who’s arguably the best team in football,” Roethlisberger said. “I’ve got to believe at least coming from me it’s already going to be as competitive as it gets.”

If you’re a Steelers fan, then this is your chance to take your loyalty on the road!  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today and help cheer on your Pittsburgh Steelers!

Steelers Organization celebrate 82nd year

On this day in 1933, the Pittsburgh Pirates were formed by Art Rooney and today are tied as the 7th oldest club in the NFL behind the Chicago Bears, the Cardinals (both St. Louis & Arizona), the Detroit Lions (also the Portsmouth Spartans), the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and the (Boston) Washington Redskins.

The organization would spend decades as an irrelevant organization and it was not until the 1970’s that the club came into prominence behind Chuck Knoll and Quarterback Terry Bradshaw, now a Fox NFL analyst, winning their first Superbowl in 1974.

The Steelers will open the preseason with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio against the Minnesota Vikings.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today before they are all gone!

Jets upset Steelers

The New York Jets welcomed the Pittsburgh Steelers to MetLife Stadium hoping to keep up with the then 6-3 Steelers.  By the end of the first quarter, the Jets held a 17-0 advantage.  The Jets defense did the rest of the heavy lifting holding the Steelers to three points in the first half and 10 in the second.  The Jets managed another field goal to end the game 13-20.

“There’s nothing mystical about the outcome of that football game,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. “We talked all week about why that team struggled: because they were minus in the turnover ratio. … Well, they weren’t today. They were plus-4.  You’re going to lose football games when you’re minus-4 in the turnover ratio, and we did today.”

The Steelers will take the week to regroup and hope to bounce back against the (2-7) Tennessee Titans.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so get yours now!

Steelers attempt to regroup against Panthers

After a humiliating 20 point loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers will attempt to add a second victory in the win column this weekend against the undefeated Carolina Panthers who are coming off a win against the Detroit Lions.

The Steelers hope to fix their defensive ailments with stopping the run a priority.  They could take a lesson from the Panthers who lead the NFL with six takeaways while giving up none.
